India’s higher education sector has undergone a phenomenal expansion with even more envisaged. For the last several years, higher education has been considered as a global phenomenon and its conceptual framework draws on a set of key imperatives of which access and excellence/skill are most crucial. The social dimension and economic need for higher education are increasing sharply.

Govt. of India has given more emphasis in recent years on Vocational Education with a particular objective to develop skills among youths of the country so that they can manage their livelihood and become the workforce of the country. In an attempt to further development and popularization of vocation oriented courses national council for vocational training and the National Skill Development Agency are merged into the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET).

Indira Gandhi Technological and Medical Sciences University have responded positively towards the implementation of the Govt. policy in this regard. This University has taken the initiative in the right direction and introduced various vocational courses in its fold. I am happy to know that Dr. K.R. Adhikary Institute of Vocational Education and Research, which is an extended project of Dr. K.R. Adhikary College of Optometry and Paramedical Technology in collaboration with IGTAMSU has taken the initiative to develop skill and provide training among young boys and girls who intend to have their career option in vocational studies. I am sure this project of Dr. K.R. Adhikary College of Optometry and Paramedical Technology will be a successful one in due course. I also wish the students who intend to admit themselves in the vocational courses with a bright future after completion of the course. These courses are also being encouraged by the various Govt. agencies.
